about

Shawn Browning's sixth single, The Melodious Fray, is a nod back to 90's noisy, grungy alternative guitar pop. The song is akin to Nirvana, Husker Du/Bob Mould, Superchunk, Matthew Sweet, and early Soul Asylum. (Ok, maybe a little bit of 80's Judas Priest, too)

THE MELODIOUS FRAY

There’s no further away that you could be
Than lyin’ here right next to me
There’s no sadder song that I could hear
Than the drum in my chest, a lone balladeer

No hurrah for the tale that’s incomplete
There’s no melody for the steady pulsing beat
yeah, yeah, yeah

I want things back the way that they were
But, you travelled out a million miles away
Time marched on and I stayed dead in my tracks
Here we go again into the thick of the melodious fray

There’s nothing to say that would mean much
You scream it all from the recoil of my touch
A combustion of apathy ringin’ in my ear
I’m wondering what would make you endear

No hurrah for the tale that’s incomplete
There’s no melody for the steady pulsing beat
Ahh, no, no

There’s no adhesive to fix the broken cracks
All that’s left is a prismed parallax
No hurrah for the tale that’s incomplete
There’s no melody for the steady pulsing beat
